Lumban Laguna (my town)

The Town of Lumban is a 4th class municipality in the province of Laguna.According to the 2000 census, it has a population of 25 936 people in 5456 households.it is the Fourth largest town in the province of Laguna.The provincial capital Santa Cruz, as well as Cavinti and the famous Pagsanjan, was formerly part of Lumban.You will also found here the Lake Caliraya.the famous lake of the said town. Lumban town is 104 kilometers south east of Manila, the capital of the Phillippines. Lumban plays a big part not only in the history of Laguna, as well as the history of Pillippines.this is one of the art centers during the Spanish time, and the proof are the existence of some musical schools located in this town. Lumban name comes from a tree named "Lumbang". 


It is also one of the oldest places in Laguna called Embroidery Center in the Philippines.
The Lumban is the only town in Laguna where the embroidery developed as the main source of thier livelihood. Each and everyone able to seek about their ancestors who had been students at schools operated by missionaries since the Spanish era. With the passage of time, the art of embroidery passed from one generation to the subsequent generations. Currently, the embroidery is already vibrant industry that also creates a "hand-painted" cloth.
Approximately 80 percent of the population participate in Lumban embroidery. According to local residents.


The Lumbeños makes the best and finest design Barong Tagalog and Filipiniana in the Philippines,Thats why Barong of Lumban Town became one of the famous in the world. Some of the prominent personalities of the Phillippine society such as by Corazon Aquino and Imelda Marcos, and even other politicians' wives take their Filipiniana attire from the famed area.


Theres a Festival that Lumban town proudly Celebrate. It is called 
"the Burdang Lumban Festival". this Burdang Lumban Festival is celebrated on the 21st of September each year to take pride in the major industry Lumban town have. Embroidery are their efficiency using the delicate fabric of pineapple and husi.


This festival presented a variety of handmade embroidery as Barong made from pineapple fiber, feminine attire, gown, bridal, veil, scarf, bags, clothes Maria Clara, home decor, curtains , lamping pangmesa, handkerchiefs, and so on.
